Bring the forest floor into your enclosure with our naturally aged hardwood, hand collected from our family farm in Middle Tennessee.

This mix contains soft, decomposing hardwood fibers and small wood chunks that provide a long-lasting food source, natural hiding spaces, and moisture-retaining material for isopods and other bioactive cleanup crews.

Work it into the upper layer of your substrate or scatter it across the surface to create a more natural environment for burrowing, hiding, and foraging.

Choose Your Mix

Aged Hardwood Only

A hand-sorted blend of naturally decomposed hardwood fibers and small chunks. Great for supplementing an existing substrate or providing additional food and cover.

Aged Hardwood + Leaf Litter

Our aged hardwood blend combined with broken natural leaf litter for additional food, surface coverage, and a more complete forest floor environment.

Available Sizes

1 Quart

Ideal for smaller colonies, new setups, or refreshing existing enclosures. Typically enough for 1–2 six-quart isopod bins, depending on coverage.

1 Gallon

A larger quantity for established colonies, bigger bioactive enclosures, or multiple breeding bins.

Ideal For

  • Isopod colonies
  • Springtail cultures
  • Millipede enclosures
  • Bioactive reptile and amphibian habitats
  • Terrariums and vivariums

Naturally Sourced in Middle Tennessee

Our hardwood is collected from untreated, chemical-free land on our family farm, where it has naturally decomposed over time.

Each batch is hand sorted and contains a natural variety of wood fibers, small chunks, textures, and colors. Because this is a naturally collected product, no two batches will look exactly alike.

Preparation: This material is collected outdoors. Inspect and prepare it using your preferred method before introducing it to an enclosure with animals.

Building a New Isopod Habitat?

Our Isopod Starter Kit also includes this aged hardwood mix, along with substrate, a natural bark hide, and moss.
